Welcome to St. Paul . . .There's a place here for you!
Sunday School 10 a.m. Worship 11 a.m.
Fifty years ago, a group of Methodists felt called to plant a church in the center of Conroe that would embrace the mission of the Apostle Paul. These founders gave no importance to towering stained glass windows, steeples, statuary, or orchestras. Such accoutrements of worship were available everywhere. Instead, their goal was to plant a church that would be simple, approachable, authentic, and welcoming. The outcome of their vision was a campus that looks like a cozy, piney-woods retreat center with a sanctuary that is both intimate and comfortable.
The Apostle Paul was one of the most educated men of his day. Born in the intensely intellectual climate of Tarsus (now south-central Turkey), and educated in Jerusalem, Paul (who had once been a Pharisee), had a foot in both the Gentile and the Jewish worldviews. After his conversion to Christianity, Paul gave his life as a bridge for non-Christians and nominal Christians, helping them to understand the love of God, and to grasp the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ . Paul lived among his congregations, "spoke their language," and preached and taught in way they could understand. Some joined him in his mission; others came to learn and grow, and then moved on to ministries of their own.
St. Paul United Methodist Church continues to embrace the vision of the Apostle Paul. Our pastor, the Reverend Cynthia T. Hinson, has served St. Paul for 15 years. Her passion is preaching and teaching the Gospel in a way that connects with the people who come to hear. Frequently she will simply open the Bible and teach from it directly, on the floor of the sanctuary among the people. She welcomes questions and invites congregational participation.
When you come for a visit, be comfortable! Know you will be warmly welcomed! Wear "Sunday clothes" or your casual jeans -- either way, you will fit right in. We sing from The United Methodist Hymnal (see "Favorite Links" in the left column). During worship, you will hear traditional and new hymns, The Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and Prayers of the People. Children are invited to come down to the altar for a Children's Message. The sermon will be relevant, biblical, and stimulating, lasting about 20 minutes. We receive Holy Communion by intinction (dipping the bread into non-alcoholic wine or grape juice) on the first Sunday of the month.
St. Paul participates missionally in the Montgomery County Food Bank, Children's Protective Services (Easter Baskets), a Magazine ministry for area hospital and physician waiting rooms, the Conroe Christmas and Go-Texan parades, musical outreach to area nursing homes and ambulatory care centers, holiday support for several group homes, and most of all, in the love and nurture of members, visitors and those we meet every day as we fulfill our mission to be a bridge for Jesus into the hearts of the world. Come and visit, try our welcome -- be filled!
